Duke Cancer Institute Breast Cancer Supply Kits
With Breast Cancer Month in October, we wanted to make a change in the healthcare industry regarding the many breast cancer patients in our community; and there was nothing else better than to contribute towards the Duke Cancer Institute!
This collaboration could not have been possible without collaboration with the Metastatic Cancer Initiative, led by Kaylee Tedjo and Arnan Gao. You can check out their website here! After Suhani reached out to them, together they began to reach out to local clubs such as Student Council and Mavs Make a Difference to offer service hours for donations from students around the school.
With the help of a few friends and many hot glue gun burns later, we assembled 113 self-care packages in total! The boxes included candles, socks, tea bags, face masks, cleansers, lotions, nail polish, and individually handwritten cards! After adorning each package with a handmade bow, the boxes were driven up to Duke to be delivered to metastatic breast cancer patients!
We will post updated pictures of the patients receiving the packages soon, keep an eye out!
